What's changed

Library (2.3.0)

  • The component's CSS is now scoped to .sub-root, so it no longer restyles the host page.
  • Fixed light hex backgrounds (e.g. #f4f4f4) being treated as dark.
  • validateProps warnings no longer throw on unusual values.

Demo site

  • Added Privacy Policy and Terms of Service pages.
  • New footer with the AOSSIE logo, legal links and a share button.

Security and audit

  • The PR labeller workflows no longer insert file names directly into the script.
  • Added the security review skills and reports (security-reviews/).
  • Added the peer review remediation report (no findings).

Tests and CI

  • 142 tests, 100% statement coverage; CI fails below 90%.
  • Added the OpenSSF Scorecard workflow.

After merge

Please run npm publish from main; the release workflow doesn't publish to npm. The landing pages need 2.3.0.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added privacy policy and terms pages to the demo, with links in the footer and options to share the page.
    • Added a security scorecard report to the project’s automated checks.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved styling isolation so the library’s styles stay within its component.
    • Improved handling of invalid theme values and color detection.
  • Documentation
    • Added privacy and terms information and updated guidance on testing, coverage, and stylesheet usage.
  • Quality
    • Expanded automated tests and added a 90% coverage requirement to continuous integration.

- sync-pr-labels.yml: pass changed file names and the issue number to github-script through env instead of interpolating them into the script; a fork PR could add a file named with a quote and run code with the job's write token (pull_request_target)
- coderabbit-approval.yml: same env pattern for label_was_present
- skills/: add security-review and security-remediation from AOSSIE-Org/Template-Repo; .gitignore: ignore unremediated-security-reviews/

The built stylesheet no longer leaks Tailwind's preflight and theme into host pages. scripts/scope-css.mjs moves :root/:host/html rules to .sub-root and wraps selectors in :where(.sub-root, .sub-root *).

Also fixes isDarkColor reading hex colours like #f4f4f4 as rgb(4, 4, 4), keeps validateProps warnings from throwing on odd values, and names the luminance threshold and default border.

Moves demo links and host presets into demo/config.ts and demo/host.ts, puts the favicon in public/brand/icons and adds the new pages to the sitemap.

src/utils/validateProps.ts:58-59
Minor · Stability & Availability · Quick win

Guard the safeString fallback so warnings cannot throw.

safeString calls Object.prototype.toString.call(value) in its catch block without a guard. That call reads Symbol.toStringTag. For an object with a non-callable toString and a throwing Symbol.toStringTag getter, both conversions throw. The exception escapes safeString and validateProps, so validateProps throws instead of falling back to "auto". The warn argument is evaluated before warn checks NODE_ENV, so production builds throw too.

Suggested fix
 function safeString(value: unknown): string {
   try {
     return String(value);
   } catch {
-    return Object.prototype.toString.call(value);
+    try {
+      return Object.prototype.toString.call(value);
+    } catch {
+      return "[unprintable value]";
+    }
   }
 }

Note: this behaviour predates this PR (already present at merge base 4fab045a6ae3); the change keeps it reachable.

Narrow the isolation claim for @property rules.

scopeCss rewrites only style rule selectors. The @property rules for --tw-* names are not selector-scoped, so they stay global in the built stylesheet. A host that uses those names does not inherit their values from ancestors, and it uses the registered initial-value when one is set. The new text says that importing the stylesheet never changes the host page's styles. That text is inaccurate for these names. Update the README note and the scoper header comment.

README.md
-> - **Tailwind CSS v4 or later, or no Tailwind:** Import the stylesheet directly. Since v2.3.0 it is scoped to the component: its reset, theme variables and utilities only apply inside the component's root (`.sub-root`), so importing it never changes your page's fonts, spacing or other styles.

demo/config.test.ts: 1

14-16: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Check that each DEMO_PAGES path has an index.html file.

The path test accepts any lowercase path that ends in a slash. A value such as policy/ passes, but policy/index.html does not exist. vite.config.ts uses each DEMO_PAGES value as a Rollup input, so npm run vite:build fails when the entry file is missing. CI does not catch this. npm run build runs rollup -c, not Vite, and the test only checks the string format.

A test that checks the filesystem catches the missing entry before deployment.

Add a filesystem assertion to the DEMO_PAGES test that resolves each configured

vitest.config.ts: 1

15-15: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Add a test that asserts every demo page is a Vite build input.

No test reads the Vite input mapping in vite.config.ts. demo/config.test.ts checks only the format of DEMO_PAGES values. CI does not run vite build, because npm run build runs only the library build. The demo is built only in CD, which runs npm run vite:build and uploads ./dist without checking it.

If an entry is removed from the mapping while DEMO_PAGES stays unchanged, the build still succeeds and the page is not emitted. The footer and legal links then point to a missing page.

Adding vite.config.ts to coverage does not detect this. The file is outside the coverage include, and the mapping line runs whenever the config loads.

Add a test alongside the existing demo config tests that compares every key in
DEMO_PAGES with the build input mapping exported by vite.config.ts, asserting
each page is included. Keep the check focused on input coverage so removing a
page from the mapping fails the test.

Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

The egress allowlist omits codeload.github.com, which may serve the GitHub archive used by Scorecard's documented default archive file mode.

The analysis cannot obtain repository files and fails or produces incomplete results.

This can occur when: Scorecard retrieves a repository archive through a GitHub API redirect to codeload.github.com.

Blocked egress permits api.scorecard.dev but does not list the GitHub Actions OIDC token endpoint; publish_results: true may be unable to obtain its publication identity.

Scorecard results are not published despite the workflow enabling publication.

This can occur when: Scorecard requests an OIDC token to publish a completed analysis.

Guard localStorage reads in LegalPage.

LegalPage reads storage during render without handling exceptions. Browsers that block storage throw a SecurityError from localStorage.getItem. The uncaught error stops rendering, so the legal document does not appear. Wrap the reads in a helper that returns null on error. The existing || "zinc" and || "sans" defaults then apply.

Check for an existing remediations draft before writing it.

Step 6.2 writes the remediations file to unremediated-security-reviews/ with no existence check. A later run for the same report can overwrite an earlier draft. The draft is untracked and gitignored, so Git cannot restore it.

Check base freshness before reading the PR diff.

Step 3.1 reads <base>...HEAD without checking whether a branch base is current. If the local base branch is behind its remote-tracking branch, the merge base moves backward. The reported scope then includes upstream commits that the PR does not contain. The PR's own commits stay in the range.

The check below uses only read-only git commands that allowed-tools already permits. It does not fetch.

Suggested fix
- branch or commit the change is against) and read the actual scoped diff
+ branch or commit the change is against). If the base is a branch, run
+ `git log --oneline <base>..origin/<base>`. If `origin/<base>` is ahead of
+ `<base>`, use `origin/<base>` as the base. If `origin/<base>` does not exist,
+ state that base freshness is unknown. Use an explicit commit as given. For a
+ base on another remote, use that remote's name in place of `origin`. Then read
+   the actual scoped diff

The check compares against the remote state recorded by the last fetch. It cannot confirm the current remote state without network access. When the remote may be newer, or when origin/<base> is missing, state that limitation in the report. Do not add git fetch to allowed-tools. A fetch updates remote-tracking refs and conflicts with the non-mutating git rule.
