irb stays CRuby's: IronRuby's irb is iirb only - #69
After installing IronRuby, typing irb in a new terminal started IronRuby's irb instead of CRuby's. The installer puts its directory first on the PATH, as RubyInstaller does, and that directory contained irb.cmd. The i-prefixed launchers (igem, iirb, irubyc) exist precisely so they can sit next to CRuby's, as JRuby's jgem/jirb do. irb.cmd/irb.sh undid that.
Changes
irb.cmd and irb.sh are deleted. Archives and installer ship ironruby, ir, iirb, igem and irubyc. ironruby -S irb still finds IronRuby's irb in Src/StdLib/bin, which is not on the PATH.
Installer: an [InstallDelete] removes an irb.cmd left behind by an earlier build on upgrade. The Start-menu entry starts iirb.cmd, and the task text names iirb.
test-installer.ps1 fails if irb.cmd or gem.cmd is installed, and tests iirb.
CI and package-release.sh smoke-test iirb. The README and the 4.0.3 notes use iirb.
Checked
I built the installer and upgraded an existing install that still had irb.cmd. After the upgrade:
irb.cmd is gone.
where irb finds C:\Ruby40-x64\bin\irb first.
iirb.cmd runs IronRuby's irb.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Launcher Changes
IronRuby’s interactive shell is now launched with iirb (iirb.cmd on Windows), keeping the unprefixed irb command available for CRuby.
The irb.sh and irb.cmd launchers are no longer included. You can still run IronRuby’s interactive shell with ironruby -S irb.
The installer removes a legacy irb.cmd and adds the iirb.cmd Start Menu shortcut.
Documentation
Updated setup, download, and release instructions to use the iirb launcher names.
The installer puts its directory first on the PATH, as RubyInstaller does, and that
directory had irb.cmd - so after installing IronRuby, `irb` in a new terminal was
IronRuby's, not CRuby's. igem, iirb and irubyc are i-prefixed exactly so they can sit
on the PATH beside CRuby's, as JRuby's jgem and jirb do; irb.cmd and irb.sh undid that.
They are gone. The archives and the installer ship ironruby, ir, iirb, igem and
irubyc; `ironruby -S irb` still finds IronRuby's irb in Src/StdLib/bin, which is not
on the PATH. The installer deletes an irb.cmd an earlier build of it left behind, its
Start menu entry starts iirb.cmd, and test-installer.ps1 fails if an irb.cmd or
gem.cmd is installed. CI, package-release.sh's smoke tests, the README and the 4.0.3
notes use iirb.
Checked by building the installer and upgrading an install that had irb.cmd: it is
removed, `where irb` finds CRuby 4.0's first, and iirb.cmd runs IronRuby's irb.
IronRuby’s interactive-shell launcher changes to iirb. The unprefixed irb launchers are removed, and installer behavior, release packaging, smoke tests, and documentation are updated to use the new name. ironruby -S irb remains available.

Summary
Launcher names and wrappers iirb.cmd, iirb.sh, irb.cmd, irb.sh
The iirb launcher comments identify the equivalent ironruby -S irb command. The unprefixed irb wrapper scripts are removed.
Installer and release integration Util/installer/ironruby.iss, Util/installer/test-installer.ps1, Util/package-release.sh, .github/workflows/ci.yml
The installer uses iirb, removes a legacy irb.cmd, and checks for conflicting launchers. Release packaging and smoke tests use iirb.
Documentation and CI updates README.md, Docs/releases/v4.0.3.md
The README and release notes use iirb and describe the remaining irb invocation and launcher behavior.
Largo/ironruby#39: Adds smoke checks that this change updates to invoke iirb.
Largo/ironruby#40: Defines the iirb interactive-shell behavior documented by this change.

The documented installer build example uses the 4.0.2 archive. That archive still contains irb.cmd, so the resulting installer puts irb.cmd back on the PATH ahead of CRuby's irb and fails the installer test. Either exclude irb.cmd in the installer's file list or update the documented example before merging.

Explanation
The title states the main change: IronRuby's interactive shell is now launched as iirb, and irb stays CRuby's. The raw summary and objectives confirm that irb.cmd and irb.sh are deleted, installer and tests use iirb, and CRuby's irb is no longer shadowed on PATH. The title is specific and matches the changeset, although it is terse and uses the phrase 'irb stays CRuby's' which a reader may find slightly cryptic.

Exclude irb.cmd from legacy source archives.
The documented build-installer.sh example uses the 4.0.2 archive, which contains irb.cmd. [InstallDelete] runs before [Files], so the wildcard on Line 82 installs that file again. The resulting installer shadows CRuby’s irb and fails the installer test. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
Exclude the root irb.cmd from [Files], or reject legacy archives and update the documented example.
