Cap topK in TestCuVSGaps at the number of documents with vectors - #2799
Caps topK in TestCuVSGaps.testVectorSearchWithAlternatingDocuments at the number of documents with vectors. Only even-numbered documents have vectors, so the test failed deterministically for seeds that index fewer vectors than topK (e.g. BBE2A1CCC7772A7F: 53 vectors, topK 59). #2709 fixed the same issue for the HNSW gaps test.
This PR originally also fixed the filtering rate in multi-partition CAGRA search (#2736). #2582 has since fixed that on main, and the regression test moved to #2967. Reproduction and verification: #2785 (see #2783).
Single-partition CAGRA search computes the filtering rate from the filter bitset when the caller
does not set one, and MULTI_CTA enlarges itopk_size for selective filters accordingly. The
multi-partition search skipped this, so a selective per-partition filter searched with the
unadjusted itopk_size and could return fewer than k neighbors although every partition held more
than k rows passing the filter. cuvs-lucene then routes the query back to per-segment search,
which made TestMultiSegmentGPUFilterConcurrency flaky.
Derive the rate from the per-partition bitsets, sizing the shared plan for the most selective
partition that accepts any row.
Also limit topK in TestCuVSGaps.testVectorSearchWithAlternatingDocuments to the number of
documents that have vectors.
The test compares results with exact top-10 neighbors among retained rows. It checks that each query has 10 valid results and that recall is at least 0.95.

Summary
Bound topK by available vectors java/cuvs-lucene/src/test/java/com/nvidia/cuvs/lucene/TestCuVSGaps.java
The test calculates the number of documents with vectors and caps its randomly selected topK at that count.
The CAGRA regression test should include mixed partition selectivity so the intended filtering behavior is actually protected.

Explanation
For [#2736], the reviewed head computes the filtering rate from each partition bitset and sizes the shared MULTI_CTA plan for the most selective partition with accepted rows. The added AnnCagraMultiPartition.SelectiveFilterReturnsKNeighbors test checks that selective multi-partition searches return k neighbors and maintain recall. This addresses the required complete multi-partition GPU results.

Good catch — done. I added a small detail::clamp_filtering_rate helper in cagra.cuh and used it in the single-partition bitset path, the multi-partition path, and the udf_filter path, which had the same clamp; how each path derives the rate stays where it is, since the multi-partition one takes a max over per-partition counts.

Workstream C of the flaky-CI sweep (#2783). The cuvs-lucene "missing results" flakes were the most frequent group in the 5-week window (~20 hits, amd64 and arm64). The hits after #2612 are all TestMultiSegmentGPUFilterConcurrency.filteredSearchesTakeTheMultiPartitionGpuPath failing with expected:<24> but was:<23>: a filtered multi-partition CAGRA search returns fewer than k hits, so the query leaves the GPU path (test, fallback).
Root cause: the multi-partition cagra::search overload never derived filtering_rate from the partition bitsets, so it stayed at the default -1 and MULTI_CTA never enlarged itopk_size for a selective filter. Single-partition bitset search does this (cagra.cuh).
Fix: compute the rate per partition, size the shared plan for the most selective partition that still accepts a row, and apply the same 0.999 cap as the single-partition path.
The TestCuVSGaps change is a separate, deterministic test bug (see the inline comment).
Out of scope: SINGLE_CTA never adjusts itopk_size for the filtering rate, in single-partition search either. AUTO only picks SINGLE_CTA here when there are at least 2x SM-count (query, partition) CTAs.

#2582 (now merged) resolved the core failure mode that this PR was addressing. All that remained was two tests: a regression test for C++ and a fix for Java. I have split up this work so that this PR now contains the Java fix and #2967 contains the C++ regression test.
Use mixed partition selectivity in this regression fixture.
The fixture applies the same removed-row list to every partition. The aggregate rate therefore equals the most-selective partition's rate, so the test passes even if shared MULTI_CTA sizing uses the aggregate rate.
Create separate per-partition bitsets, such as keep_every = 24 for one partition and keep_every = 2 for the others. Keep each device-side removed-row buffer alive, and validate with the selected partition's keep_every. This makes the aggregate and most-selective rates differ and allows the test to detect incorrect shared-plan sizing.

Update search_with_selective_filter to build distinct removed-row lists and

2 for the others, so aggregate selectivity differs from the most-selective
partition. Keep each device-side removed-row buffer alive for the corresponding
bitset’s use, and validate results using the selected partition’s keep_every.
