Description

I found that changing RFlowScheduler(transform_scale=...) has no effect when use_timestep_transform=True: the value is stored, but both calls to timestep_transform use its default scale=1.0.

I now pass the configured scale when setting inference timesteps and when sampling training timesteps. The default transform_scale=1.0 behavior is unchanged. The constructor now also rejects a non-positive transform_scale when the transform is enabled, since it would otherwise divide by zero in timestep_transform. I added regression tests for scales 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0, covering 2D and 3D inputs, discrete and continuous timesteps, and both uniform and logit-normal training sampling.

Evidence

The figure uses a synthetic 32 × 32 × 32 input and an equally sized reference volume, 1,000 training timesteps, and 20 continuous inference steps. Before the fix, all three schedules coincide. After the fix, each scale produces the intended schedule. Marker positions are interleaved to reveal coincident traces without changing any values.

Inference timestep schedules before and after forwarding transform_scale

Verification

I ran python -m unittest -v tests.networks.schedulers.test_scheduler_rflow: the new non-default-scale cases produced 24 failures before the fix, and all 44 tests pass after the fix. All 96 scheduler tests also pass with python -m unittest discover -v -s tests/networks/schedulers -p 'test_*.py'. I checked the two changed files with Black 26.10.0, isort 9.0.2, Ruff 0.16.10, and git diff --check.

Types of changes

  • Non-breaking change (fix or new feature that would not break existing functionality).
  • New tests added to cover the changes.

I used an AI coding assistant to help investigate and draft this; I reviewed and tested every change.

Pass the configured transformation scale to inference and training timestep
transforms instead of always using the helper's default. Add deterministic
regression coverage for both paths while preserving the default scale.

Walkthrough

RFlowScheduler rejects non-positive transform_scale values when timestep transformation is enabled. Inference and training timestep transformations use the configured scale. Parameterized tests cover scale values, spatial dimensions, discrete and continuous timesteps, sampling methods, and validation behavior.

Add docstrings to both new test methods.

Describe each test's parameters in a Google-style Args section. As per path instructions, “Docstrings should be present for all definition” and describe variables in the appropriate Google-style section.

A zero or negative scale makes timestep_transform divide by zero on the
first inference timestep. Raise a ValueError in the constructor instead;
zero is still accepted when the transform is disabled, since the value is
unused then.

Document the new constructor exception.

Add a Google-style Raises section for the ValueError and state when it occurs. As per path instructions, “Docstrings should be present for all definition which describe each variable, return value, and raised exception in the appropriate section of the Google-style of docstrings.”

Add a non-unit spatial-size case.

Both transform-scale tests force ratio_space to 1. Add a case with unequal input and base sizes, and compute the expected value with both ratio_space and transform_scale. No related test covers this combination.

Update both transform-scale tests around `scheduler.set_timesteps` to include a

Reject non-finite transformation scales.

When transform_scale is float("nan") or float("inf"), this check accepts it. timestep_transform then produces NaN timesteps, including at the first inference step. Require a finite, positive scale when transformation is enabled. As per path instructions, “Review the Python code for quality and correctness.”

Add a docstring to test_non_positive_transform_scale at line 146.

The definition at line 146 has no docstring. The **/*.py instruction requires docstrings for all definitions, and it names no exception for tests. The method does not raise ValueError. It catches the error with assertRaises, so the docstring should not include a Raises section.
