Summary

A newer explicit scroll command supersedes layout-driven work that was queued before it. Clear both pendingScrollAnchor and _clampedAdjustment at the start of _startScroll, before any iOS command deferral, so a later layout commit or clamp retry cannot overwrite the user's newer scroll intent.

Adds a focused regression test that seeds a pending prepend anchor and clamped retry, starts scrollToOffset(100), then verifies the stale work is cleared and cannot restore the old target.

Validation

  • Focused virtual-core scroll-command tests pass
  • test:lib passes, including scroll-trace snapshots
  • Required CI checks pass

This is intentionally isolated from PR #1321, following maintainer feedback to separate the explicit-scroll cancellation fix from the larger prepend-anchor retry change.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes

    • Explicit scrolling now reliably takes precedence over pending layout adjustments, preventing the viewport from jumping back to a stale target.
    • Fixed deferred scroll corrections from overriding a newer user-requested position, including after changes to the scrollable content height.
    • Improved scrolling consistency when layout updates or previously constrained scroll operations are still pending.
  • Tests

    • Added regression coverage for explicit scrolling when pending adjustments are present.

📝 Walkthrough

_startScroll now clears pending scroll anchors and clamped-adjustment retries before an explicit scroll command. Regression tests verify that the requested offset remains effective.

Changes: Explicit Scroll Command

Layer / File(s) Summary
Clear deferred state before explicit scrolling
packages/virtual-core/src/index.ts, packages/virtual-core/tests/scroll-commands.test.ts, .changeset/dull-kings-stare.md
_startScroll clears pending scroll-anchor and clamped-adjustment state. Regression tests verify that deferred work does not overwrite an explicit offset of 100. The changeset records a patch release for @tanstack/virtual-core.

Exercise the real anchor and clamp producers.

The test assigns both private fields directly. It can pass while a regression still lets _willUpdate() restore the stale anchor position or lets a later resize retry write the stale clamp target.

Replace the setup with real setOptions and resizeItem paths. Assert the element remains at 100 after the later _willUpdate().

Thanks for splitting this out. The behaviour change is right: in the scroll-trace base/web/58 sequence, main lets a stale anchor pull a scrollToIndex back to the end, and this PR keeps the command. Two things are needed:

  1. 10 scroll-trace snapshots change. That is expected, so please update them with pnpm vitest run tests/scroll-trace.test.ts -u in packages/virtual-core.
  2. Add a @tanstack/virtual-core patch changeset.

… cancellation

An explicit scroll now drops a pending anchor and clamp retry, so the
seeds where a stale anchor pulled a command back move.
