Should an unlisted abbreviation after a full name and a comma read as a post-nominal, as in Jan Novák, DiS.? #969
Found by the cz-candidates local corpus (#963), fetched 2026-10-30 (170,181 records). Names are invented.
Today
Jan Novák, DiS. → title DiS., given Jan, family Novák. Every unlisted period-marked word does the same: Jan Novák, Xyz. → title Xyz..
With a title in front it joins that title: Bc. Jan Novák, DiS. → title Bc. DiS..
locales.CS reads them the same way.
DiS. (diplomovaný specialista) is a Czech/Slovak tertiary diploma, written after the name.
Mechanism: the part after the comma is not all suffix words, so rules/C1 reads it as the listing form; rules/H2 then reads the unlisted abbreviation heading the given part as a title; and rules/C8 reads the part before the comma as the whole name.
Size
3,248 records hold dis in the box after the name (re.search(r"\bdis\b", box.replace(".", "").casefold())). In 3,232 of them the parse reads DiS. as a title (its title holds dis by the same test).
The same shape hits dipl. um. (27, plus 9 spaced variants), Dr. (10), ArtD. (3), IEn. (3) and, under the default only, DrSc. (12).
The box after the name agrees for 56.0% of the 7,687 that are filled; about 96% without DiS..
Options (none chosen)
(a) Vocabulary: list DiS. as a credential (in cs.toml/sk.toml, or mul.toml), after checking its name readings with tools/name_usage.py dis. Fixes DiS. only.
(b) Structure: after a comma behind two or more name words, read a part that is only an unlisted abbreviation as a post-nominal rather than a listing-form given part. This cuts against rules/H2's family-comma reading (Smith, Xyz. → title, as in 1.4.0) and rules/C3's word count, and needs the comma-shape sweep.
Open: would (b) move ctgov-officials or psc-individuals?
