Declare the license as an SPDX expression - #829

setuptools warns that project.license as a TOML table is deprecated and stops supporting it after 2027-02-18. Use the SPDX string, list LICENSE and AUTHORS in license-files, and drop the license classifier, which setuptools refuses beside a license expression. CI's build step prints a setuptools deprecation:
project.licenseas a TOML table is deprecated, and builds stop being supported after 2027-02-18.license = {text = "LGPL"}becomeslicense = "LGPL-2.1-or-later". LICENSE grants "version 2.1 ... or (at your option) any later version", so the expression matches it.license-files = ["LICENSE", "AUTHORS"].License :: OSI Approved :: ...classifier is removed, since setuptools refuses it beside a license expression.Verified:
uv buildprints no warning;twine checkpasses on both artifacts; the wheel's METADATA carriesLicense-Expression: LGPL-2.1-or-laterplusLicense-File: LICENSEandAUTHORS(both underdist-info/licenses/);uv run pytest -qpasses. CITATION.cff already saysLGPL-2.1-or-later; README and docs state no conflicting version. The PyPI metadata (and the README's
|License|badge, which reads PyPI) changes on the next release. Nopackagingorchorelabel exists, so this usestooling.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
