fix: prevent pasting or dropping images into issue commands - #1159
When using /bug or /feature, the action buttons disappear because GitHub issues only accept plain text. However, you could still paste images from your clipboard or drag and drop files into the composer.
The composer would accept the image and show a preview, which gave the impression the screenshot would be attached to the GitHub issue (it wasn't).
Fix
Disabled the image onPaste handler and drag-and-drop zone while an issue command is active.
Made sure any existing image attachments are cleared when switching into an issue command.
Added unit tests in ComposerDraft.test.tsx to verify paste and drop are disabled in issue mode.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Image attachments can no longer be added while composing an issue, whether by dragging, dropping, or pasting. Existing attachments are cleared when starting or creating an issue, and image previews and errors are hidden during issue composition.
Issue commands now require the minimum amount of text in the body. For regular commits, images can still satisfy the minimum-body requirement.
File drag interactions no longer trigger the image dropzone while a poll or issue command is active.
Issue command mode clears image attachments when issue creation starts and after it succeeds. It disables image paste and drop handling, hides image previews and errors, and requires a minimum-length body for the issue command. Regular commits can still qualify through attached images.
useIssueCommand accepts an optional onStart callback. The composer uses it to clear attachments when an issue command starts. Issue command mode disables image paste and drop handling, hides previews and errors, and requires a minimum-length body for committable state. Tests check paste and drag handling.
I can't report a bug with an image #982: Reports a failure when reporting a bug with an image. This change alters image attachment behavior in the issue-command path.
File drops are currently blocked in issue mode. Adding a drop assertion would protect that behavior against regression; the remaining gap does not prevent merging.
Security architecture risk: Minimal · up to b6506
The change restricts image handling in issue drafts without expanding permissions or submission destinations. The reviewed cleanup prevents pending image reads from restoring cleared attachments.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The demonstrated effect is confined to the current user's composer draft and its existing submission paths. The change removes image-input reachability in issue mode rather than adding a destination, permission or cross-user data path.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Issue-mode file drops are canceled and the attachment paste callback is omitted. These are client-side interaction controls, not authorization controls. The existing commit form separately refuses submission while that composer is in issue mode and conditionally adds image fields only to ordinary commit submissions.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #423 reports misleading image input during terminal issue commands. CommitComposerBody disables image paste and file drop handling when isIssue is true. It hides the drop overlay, previews, and image errors. useIssueCommand calls attachments.clear() when issue mode starts and after issue creation. The updated ComposerDraft.test.tsx verifies the missing paste and drag-enter handlers and verifies file drag-over prevention.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes stay within image-input handling for issue commands. Attachment clearing, submittability changes, and tests support the issue-command behavior. The shared drag prevention also preserves the existing restriction for poll mode. No unrelated product behavior is demonstrated in the reviewed changes.

Cancel file drops in issue mode.
In issue mode, the composer has no handler that cancels file drops. A file drop can trigger the browser’s default file navigation and take the user away from the composer.
The draft body remains in useStash and is flushed on pagehide, so the drop does not lose the unfinished draft. Poll mode already has the same missing cancellation because it also omits attachments.dropzone.
Add file-only dragover and drop handlers without attaching images.

Add an issue-mode onDrop assertion for file drops.
The new test checks only onDragOver in issue mode. If onDrop: cancelFileDrop were removed from the issue-mode branch, the browser could handle a dropped file by navigating to it, and this test would still pass. Add a matching assertion for onDrop:
