Fix to #903 - There is no back button to thread

#903

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added consistent back navigation to user profiles, connections, and commit pages. The back control returns to the previous page when possible, or uses an appropriate fallback.

Hey, since this is a frontend change, would you mind attaching some before-after recordings? Thanks!

Opening a profile from a thread left no way back in the iOS
standalone app, which has no browser back button. Extracts the
commit page's back behaviour into a useGoBack hook and reuses it
in the profile header.

Fixes dev-null-sh#903
The connections back arrow pushed the profile onto history, so
going back from that profile returned to connections again. It now
goes back through history, falling back to the profile when there
is none.

Walkthrough

A new useGoBack hook centralizes browser-history navigation and fallback selection. The commit page now uses the hook, and user pages use it for back controls with page-specific fallback behavior.

Changes: Back navigation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Shared back-navigation hook
resources/js/hooks/use-go-back.ts
Adds useGoBack, which uses browser history when more than one entry exists. Otherwise, it uses the optional fallback or selects a destination based on auth.log.
Page integration
resources/js/pages/commit/show.tsx, resources/js/pages/user/connections.tsx, resources/js/pages/user/show.tsx
The commit page replaces its local navigation logic with the hook. The connections page supplies the user profile as a fallback. The profile page adds a back button.

  • dev-null-sh/dev-null.sh#903 — The issue describes losing the route back to a thread when opening a user profile. This change adds history-aware back navigation to the profile page.

The profile back control can fail in a narrow browser-history scenario; fix the history check before relying on it for navigation.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Use a check that confirms a previous history entry exists.

If a user opens a profile, visits its connections page, and uses browser Back, the profile is again the first history entry. history.length is still greater than one because it includes the forward entry. The new profile Back button then calls history.back(), which does nothing, instead of using the fallback. Track whether back navigation is possible; do not use total history length for this decision.
