Build the @moq packages from a moq submodule - #198
Conversation
Pin moq-dev/moq as a submodule on main and depend on its JS packages as workspace members, as moq.pro does, so moq.dev stops waiting on npm releases for player and publisher changes. The per-frame arrivals() handle the voice timeline needs is on main but in no release. Port to main's breaking APIs (Clock time units, timed @moq/json records), add moq's worklet Vite plugin to all three sites, and build @moq/libav with Nix in install and CI. Drop the unused Dockerfile, which cannot build it. The arrivals and assets() release conditions now hold, so delete both quests; the voice goodbye drain becomes its own quest. WalkthroughThe repository now uses MoQ JavaScript packages from a Git submodule and registers the submodule’s worklet plugin in the site build configurations. The voice and watch components update duration and transcript stream usage. The changes also revise CI and Bun pin guidance, remove the Dockerfile, and update quest documentation for worklet assets and voice shutdown. Priority: ➖ Normal Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to

Restrict the GitHub token before running checked-out code.
The check job runs bun install, bun run check, and bun test after checkout. It has no permissions block, so GITHUB_TOKEN inherits repository defaults. actions/checkout also persists the token in local Git configuration. Checked-out code can read the token. Add permissions: contents: read to check and set persist-credentials: false on the checkout steps.

Make the browser check use the generated asset path.
This guidance points assets() at assets/<name>.js, but the browser check at Line 26 still requires requests under /moq/. A site that follows the new guidance would fail that check. Change the check to the selected hosted asset path, such as /assets/, and confirm that requests do not use blob:. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Initialize the submodule before the first setup command.
On a fresh clone without submodules, the earlier nix develop -c just dev command runs bun i before this initialization step. bun i needs the moq/js workspaces, so the documented quick start fails. Move git submodule update --init above both setup paths, or make just dev initialize the submodule. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

moq-dev/moq dropped moq.dev's move into the monorepo now that the submodule ends the npm wait, so its hand-drawn SVG quest lands in this tree under a new m2. The quest root now says fixes arrive as a submodule bump. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Split the unrelated SVG migration quest out of this change
This quest introduces a separate blog-art migration, including vectorization tooling and social-card rendering decisions, that is not needed to build the MoQ packages from the submodule. Including it and its milestone links couples an independent planning change to the dependency migration and violates the repository's explicit requirement to keep changes focused. Move this quest and its index entries into a separate change.

voice.json becomes a moq-json Window holding the latest statement on each side, cut at each utterance, so the live timeline draws that exchange rather than a sliding window over the whole call. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Summary
moq.dev now builds
@moq/boy,@moq/json,@moq/publish, and@moq/watchfrom amoqsubmodule pinned on moqmain(89e1ff39d), asworkspace:*members, the same pattern moq.pro uses. This unblocks the voice timeline: the per-frameAudio.Decoder.arrivals()handle is on moqmainbut in no release, and moq's breaking cut is still far off.It also fixes staging playback: the deployed
new.moq.watch(npm 0.6.6) fails to parse the stagingdemo/bbb.hangcatalog (ZodError), while this build plays it.Changes:
package.jsonlists the 15 moq packages the four deps pull in;bunfig.tomlkeepsbun testto this repo's tests;tsconfig.jsonandbiome.jsonexcludemoq/.worklet()Vite plugin is in all three site builds, andenv.d.tsreferences its?workletdeclaration. Builds now emit the worklets toassets/<name>.jsthemselves.@moq/libavis not on npm, sopostinstallbuilds it from the submodule's flake (nix.moq.devcache). CI'scheckjob checks out submodules and installs Nix. The Dockerfile, unused by the Workers deploy and unable to build libav, is deleted with its flake Bun-pin assertion.Net.Time.MillitoClock.Milli;@moq/jsonstream records are{ value }on both sides of the voice demo's RTVI track.assets()release conditions now hold, so both are deleted anddogfood-assets' "copy from node_modules" guidance is corrected. The deferredGOODBYE_MSdrain moves toquest/m1/voice-goodbye-drain.md:<moq-publish>holds a pooled connection that lingers 2 s, so dropping the wait needs a real call to prove.moqsubmodule", and the Dockerfile pin line goes.
