feat(voice): a per-packet call timeline from the agent's voice.json - #205
The voice demo on the WebRTC post now draws each call as a live timeline from the agent's voice.json track (moq.pro agent/VOICE.md, version 2):
you: your mic frames, colored by uplink lateness, with your speech spans.
agent: VAD, turn, and barge-in marks, plus the LLM and TTS spans of each reply.
you hear: every reply frame as it arrived, colored by downlink lateness, with a line back to when the agent published it.
Placement uses a clock offset taken from the fastest transit each way (CallLog, unit tested). The view follows the latest exchange and eases between spans.
Dependencies
moq is pinned to d140840f8, which includes moq-dev/moq#6820. A lite-05/06 SUBSCRIBE_DROP now ends its readers with Old, so playback resumes on the new bot-audio-N after a barge-in instead of stalling. The pin also brings in the Backpressure playhead fix (moq-dev/moq#6514) and the new @moq/ui workspace.
Every @moq/* build at this pin runs an API report check that imports @microsoft/api-extractor, which is declared only in moq's root workspace. It's added here as a devDependency until moq-dev/moq#6882 declares it per package; drop it after that lands.
Testing
At 2f00f92: just check passes (13 existing biome warnings) and just test passes (43 tests). The clock and early-discard tests from review each fail without their fix.
Ran the demo against a local moq.pro stack with the offline voice agent, through repeated story/stop barge-ins at #6820's merge commit. Every interruption got a fresh reply that played through, the timeline drew each barge-in and its dropped span, and the console stayed clean.
Deployed 2f00f92 to new.moq.dev staging; the post and /voice serve voice-demo.Bv_QxOWh.js against api.moq.wtf, whose admission refuses a bogus challenge with challenge.
The voice demo now draws each call as a live timeline: your speech, the
agent's VAD, turn, LLM, and TTS spans, barge-ins, and every audio frame's
lateness in both directions, placed on our clock from the agent's records.
Bumps moq to 3a402c9b9 for the Backpressure playhead fix (moq#6514), which
needs the new @moq/ui workspace.

Allow faster arrivals to refine the clock estimate
When downlink latency improves after the initial clock measurement, this check can reject the very samples needed to correct the offset. For example, with the agent clock 1000 ms ahead, a 10 ms uplink and an initial 100 ms downlink produce an estimated offset of 955 ms. A subsequent publish at agent time 1200 arriving locally at 210 (10 ms downlink) is then rejected because its estimated send time is 245. Its publish remains unknown, the clock estimate never improves, and the timeline omits that frame from downlink measurements. The publish-record ingestion path applies the same rejection, so reversing record/frame arrival order does not fix it. Account for clock uncertainty when matching publishes rather than treating the midpoint estimate as exact.
The voice demo now records local audio timing and agent measurements in a call log, then displays the data in a canvas timeline. The timeline includes speech, audio frames, network timing, agent spans and marks, recognized words, and playback position. Tests cover clock synchronization, publish-track assignment, and exchange start times. The changes also add a workspace entry and development dependency, update the moq reference, and remove the timeline planning document and its README entry.
Priority: Normal
Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 5270e
The timeline can place events incorrectly after clock refinement and can display negative buffered audio. Resolve the clock-assignment issue before merging; the smaller pruning and statistic defects also remain.

…sized finished call
A frame faster than the offset's midpoint was turned away from its
publish, so it never refined the estimate. A frame claimed from a
retired track now sheds that retirement's discard. Resizing a finished
call's canvas redraws it instead of leaving it blank.

Preserve retirement state for frames that arrive afterward
When a retirement record reaches the browser before some of the retired track's audio, this loop only discards frames already in reply. A subsequent received() call still matches the old publish, but nothing remembers that its track was retired, so the frame remains undiscarded. mediaNow() and the timeline then treat audio that will never play as pending playback, potentially showing it as buffered or subsequently played. Retain retirement state by track and apply it when later arrivals are associated with that track.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Continue searching past publishes with an earlier end
When barge-in creates overlapping publish ranges, sorting publishes by start does not also sort their ends, so this early exit can skip a valid older publish. For example, with the existing test fixture's old publish covering [0, 5000) and a new publish covering [2000, 3000), receiving media time 4500 breaks at the new publish and never examines the old one. The frame is left without track or published, omitting it from downlink measurements and preventing track retirement from identifying it. Skip this entry rather than terminating the search unless earlier ranges are also known not to contain the frame.
…shorter publishes
A frame of a track retired before it arrived stays discarded, and the
publish search bounds itself by the longest publish rather than assuming
overlapping barge-in ranges end in order.

Exclude retired frames when measuring the buffered reply
After a barge-in interrupts a reply buffered farther ahead than its replacement, reply.at(-1) still selects the old track's highest-media-time frame because reply is sorted by media time. Retirement gives that frame a defined play, so ahead becomes undefined even while the new track has unplayed audio buffered. For example, retiring an old frame at media 4000 and receiving replacement audio at media 2020 reproduces this. The buffer summary then disappears until the replacement exceeds the old media range or the old frame is pruned. Select the last pending, non-discarded frame instead of the last frame across all tracks.
When the active broadcast receives SUBSCRIBE_DROP, the pinned moq emits NotFound("dropped"). Both JSON consumers rethrow that error instead of advancing. The catalog loop clears its state and becomes offline, while the voice.json iteration terminates without recovery. Player.reset() only resets playback; it does not rebuild either reader.
This is a conditional drop-reader failure. The demo source does not prove that every barge-in causes SUBSCRIBE_DROP. Fix the upstream moq drop boundary, then update this gitlink. Changing CallLog clock matching would not address this failure.

Readers of a dropped group now end with Old, so the voice demo's reply

Between overlapping publishes the pick rests on the clock estimate, so a
wrong one could undercut the fastest downlink transit and pin the offset
outside its own error.

A frame retired before any playhead existed kept no play time, so prune
held it forever; it now ends where it was retired. A frame the
extrapolated head already passed no longer reports negative audio
buffered ahead.
