Fixes #601

The shortcut to open the DevTools used KeyboardEvent.code, the physical QWERTY position. On layouts that move d, such as Colemak or Workman, that position is a different key. On macOS, Option also changes event.key (d becomes ∂), so key alone does not open the panel either.

The fix asks the browser which keys type d in the active layout, then falls back to event.key and event.keyCode when it cannot. On Colemak, physical G now opens the panel and physical D does not. The page and the panel share the same check; Option + D without Shift still only works inside the panel.

Closing the panel from inside it used to leave the Nuxt entry selected, so the next press closed it again instead of reopening. Closing now clears the selection, and the shortcut opens the panel whenever it is hidden.

Verification

  • pnpm test:unit: 21 files, 136 tests passed. devtools-shortcut.test.ts covers QWERTY, Workman/Colemak maps, the keyCode fallback, modifier combinations, and the non-matching physical D position.
  • pnpm lint: clean
  • pnpm typecheck: clean
  • pnpm -C packages/devtools build: succeeded
  • Manual on macOS Chrome with the Colemak input source: Shift + Option + G opens the dock. The host matcher also fires for synthetic CDP events with code: "KeyG", key: "Î", and keyCode: 68.

📝 Walkthrough

The change adds layout-aware DevTools shortcut detection with keyboard-layout mapping and produced-key and legacy-code fallbacks. The app and runtime plugin use the shared matcher, with Shift required in the runtime plugin. The runtime plugin also changes how it switches the DevTools dock entry. Tests cover shortcut matching and layout-code resolution.

Explanation

Issue #601 requires Shift+Option+D to open DevTools across keyboard layouts. The shared isDevtoolsShortcut matcher uses layout-resolved codes, event.key, and keyCode 68. It enforces the required modifiers and rejects Ctrl or Meta combinations. The page and panel use this matcher. Focused tests cover alternate layouts, fallbacks, modifiers, and the non-matching physical D position.

Explanation

The shortcut, panel-state, and test changes support issue #601. The skills-lock.json change only updates the vue-best-practices skill computedHash. The change has no demonstrated connection to the keyboard shortcut objective.

Resolution

Remove the unrelated skills-lock.json hash change unless a repository requirement directly requires it for this pull request.

🟠 Major · Open the panel in the hidden-panel branch of toggle(). · client.ts:66

packages/devtools/src/runtime/plugins/view/client.ts:66
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Open the panel in the hidden-panel branch of toggle().

When ctx.panel.session.open is false, toggle() calls only switchEntry(NUXT_DOCK_ANCHOR_ID). This can select the Nuxt entry without opening the panel, which conflicts with the stated goal that the shortcut opens the panel when it is hidden. open() and navigate() set ctx.panel.session.open = true before they switch the entry. The hidden branch should do the same.

🟡 Minor · Reset shortcut codes before each layout refresh. · shortcut.ts:66-90

packages/devtools/src/runtime/shared/shortcut.ts:66-90
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Reset shortcut codes before each layout refresh.

If layoutchange follows a populated layout map and getLayoutMap() returns an empty map or rejects, refresh keeps the old codes. A later event with that stale event.code and a non-matching event.key passes isDevtoolsShortcut.

Reset to the QWERTY fallback when refresh starts.

     const request = ++refreshRequest
+    shortcutCodes.clear()
+    shortcutCodes.add(QWERTY_D_CODE)

Update refresh to reset shortcutCodes to the QWERTY fallback immediately when
each layout refresh starts, before calling getLayoutMap, so empty or rejected
results cannot leave stale layout codes; preserve the existing request guard and
successful layout-map update behavior.
