Review in Change Stack →

Walkthrough

Adds an OpenVPN status fixture with UDP4, TCP4, UDP6, and TCP6 client addresses. Adds a test that parses the fixture and checks the expected address and port for each client.

Priority: Low

Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes

Change: Other

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 7cf6f

The new transport-prefix test fails in CI because the parser version installed there does not yet accept udp4:/tcp4:/udp6:/tcp6: prefixed addresses. Production behavior is unaffected, but the test suite stays red until the parser dependency is updated or normalization is added, so this should be resolved before merge.

Explanation

PASS. The pull request changes only OpenVPN test code and a test fixture; it does not change application behavior or a user-facing UI. The added test covers udp4, tcp4, udp6, and tcp6 addresses and asserts normalized addresses and ports. No documentation update is required for a test-only change.

Explanation

The pull request description includes all required sections. It provides completed checklist items, identifies manual testing and documentation as not applicable, describes the changes, references the related implementation, and marks the screenshot as not applicable.

OpenVPN test failure on transport-prefixed peers

Hello @nemesifier,
(Analysis for commit 7cf6f8e)

  • Test Failure: test_transport_prefixed_peers in tests/test_openvpn.py fails because openvpn-status attempts to parse IP addresses with transport prefixes (e.g., 'udp4:181.126.36.3') using Python's standard ipaddress.ip_address(), which raises a ValueError.
  • Fix: Update the OpenvpnParser logic in netdiff/parsers/openvpn.py to strip transport prefixes (such as udp4:, tcp4:, udp6:, tcp6:) from client and routing table addresses before passing them to the underlying status parser or extracting the host/real address.

## Contributing Guidelines

- Add or update focused tests for every behavior change. Use test-driven development when the scope is very clear, such as bug fixes or narrowly scoped changes. For new features, tests may be added after implementation, but confirm they fail when key feature code is removed. When a test failure does not clearly state the expected outcome that was not met, add an explicit assertion message.

## Testing and QA

- When separate tests cover different cases of the same feature, share almost identical setup, and primarily vary in input or expected outcome, group them in one test method with `subTest`. Keep each subtest's setup explicit and independent, and retain separate test methods when cases exercise genuinely distinct behavior. Leave one blank line before each with `self.subTest(...)` statement only when a test method contains multiple such statements. Do not add a blank line for a single `subTest` statement inside a loop.

@nemesifier One review issue remains open: verify the released upstream parser fix.

  • All current checks pass, including Python 3.11–3.13, CodeQL, and coverage.
  • The parser-support thread remains unresolved.
  • GitHub still reports CHANGES_REQUESTED and merge status BLOCKED.

The remaining check is to confirm that a clean installation gets the released openvpn-status-reader fix under the existing dependency range, without a local override. Green CI is encouraging, but I have not verified that release and dependency requirement. Keep the PR blocked until that check is complete.
