Where to put new files:

  • New files should go into a top-level subfolder, named after the article slug. For example: my-awesome-article

How to merge your changes:

  1. Make sure the CI code style tests all pass (+ run the automatic code formatter if necessary).
  2. Find an RP Team member on Slack and ask them to review & approve your PR.
  3. Once the PR has one positive ("approved") review, GitHub lets you merge the PR.
  4. 🎉

Code examples for the Alexa Python Development: Build and Deploy an Alexa Skill tutorial (update publishing Oct 24). Files live in the alexa-python-skill/ top-level folder, named after the article slug.

The tutorial's code blocks are incremental edits to the Alexa-hosted Hello World template, so instead of per-block fragments this folder ships the finished skill:

  • lambda_function.py: the complete Joke Bot backend with all of the tutorial's changes applied. The template's # type: comments are converted to real annotations.
  • interaction_model/en-US.json: the interaction model, with the joke bot invocation and the JokeIntent sample utterances, ready to paste into the console's JSON Editor.
  • requirements.txt: ask-sdk-core==1.19.0.

Verified locally by running every handler against simulated Alexa requests (Launch, JokeIntent, HelloWorld, Help, Stop, an unknown intent, SessionEnded). It passes ruff format --check and ruff check with the repo's pinned Ruff 0.14.1.

This folder will back a dedicated sample-code opt-in for the tutorial, replacing the shared speech recognition one.
