feat(accessibility): read an Automate build or session link's accessibility issues - #502
Conversation
Reverses abfddf6, which dropped a11y from askBrowserStackAI while Ask AI was in limited alpha. Atlas has served a11y throughout; only the tool stopped offering it. The same four places move back together: * `PRODUCTS` in types.ts is `["tm", "a11y", "tra"]`. * the `product` describe text in register.ts names a11y (Accessibility). * `NEEDS_A11Y_SCAN_ID` and `NEEDS_A11Y_CONFIG_ID` in tool-handoff.ts point at askBrowserStackAI with product "a11y" again, keeping "start a new scan" / "create one" as the fallback, since Ask AI is still entitled per account and the agent route can be refused. The test that pinned the two-product enum now pins the three-product one, checks the describe text names every product, and checks that any product a handoff names is one the schema accepts, so dropping a product without moving its handoffs fails a test instead of shipping an instruction to make a rejected call. npm run build, tsc --noEmit and eslint are clean; 84 files / 1299 tests pass. - Line 223: Update the build-summary lookup in getReportLink so every
unsuccessful response is rejected via build.ok after preserving the existing
specific 404 error for builds without accessibility results; successful lookups
should continue returning the build reference.
- Around line 108-109: Update the sessionId extraction in the URL parsing logic
to accept any non-empty opaque segment after “/sessions/”, including values such
as “sess-aaa”, instead of restricting matches to 40-character hexadecimal IDs.
Keep the buildId matcher unchanged and preserve the existing path-boundary
behavior.

…bility issues
"Show me the accessibility issues from Automate build <link>" had no route:
the Accessibility API takes only its own build id and answers an Automate
build id with 404, and nothing mapped one to the other.
A session run through the BrowserStack SDK belongs to the SDK's build, whose
id is also the Accessibility build id, and the session's test-code record
(GET /ext/v1/sessions/{id}/testCode, already used for self-healing) names it
as build_uuid. So reportUrl now takes an Automate session link (one call) or
build link (one more call, for any of its sessions) and reads that build's
issues through the existing build export.
A session not run through the SDK, an SDK run without accessibility testing
(a build the Accessibility API does not know) and an unknown Automate build
each get their own message instead of a bare 404, and the Automated Tests
404 hint now points at passing the Automate link.

Compare
… read one page and compare runs
Two eval questions failed on 2.2.5: issues on one page of a large multi-page
Website Scanner report, and what is new or fixed between two runs of a scan.
- Report links: a scanner share link (scanner.browserstack.com/.../a11y-report)
carries the dashboard link as its reportUrl parameter; it is now unwrapped.
- Large exports: an export is waited on for up to 45 s (was 3 x 2 s), polling
the same task with progress notifications. One still running is handed back
as a normal answer naming its exportTaskId; the next call continues it (by
that id, or the task an earlier call left running) instead of starting a new
export. A finished export link is reused per account until it expires, and a
failed export stops the wait. startAccessibilityScan uses the same wait.
- One page: pageUrl counts every occurrence on that page, repeats of issues
first found on other pages included, as the dashboard's page view does, and
lists each issue once with occurrences_on_page and first_found_on.
- Comparing runs: compareWith ("previous" or an older scanRunId) matches two
runs' issues by rule, element and page and lists the new and resolved ones;
against the previous run it also gives the dashboard's own counts
(changesSinceLastRun).
- Paging no longer stalls on an issue larger than a whole page.

runAppTestsOnBrowserStack validated its devices against App Automate's device
list but then sent the device strings built from the raw input. App Automate
lists Android versions as "14.0", so a run asked for "Google Pixel 8" on "14"
went out as "Google Pixel 8-14": the build started, its session never got a
device, and it errored about an hour later. The tool's own schema example uses
"14".
Espresso and XCUITest runs now send the validated name and version
("Google Pixel 8-14.0"). A run with no devices still sends none.

accessibilityExpert is going away. Until it is removed it keeps answering from BrowserStack's accessibility knowledge base, so nothing that calls it breaks, but its description and title now say it is deprecated, each answer starts with a note that it will be removed, and the tool list in docs/TOOLS.md marks it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Nobody uses it, so it goes now rather than after a deprecation release: the tool, its knowledge-base client (accessibility-rag.ts), its tests, the manual injection case for it, and its row in docs/TOOLS.md. The accessibility tools are now startAccessibilityScan, createAccessibilityAuthConfig, getAccessibilityAuthConfig and fetchAccessibilityIssues. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

…V rows, untrusted page addresses - Finding the run before a given one reads every page of the scan's runs (up to 10), as the scan_runs endpoint pages them; it read only the first. - A CSV row with no Affected page no longer crashes a page query with no occurrences while it suggests similar pages. - The similar page addresses, taken from the report, are quoted in an untrusted block. …lity build lookup An Automate link's accessibility build was accepted unless its lookup came back 404, so a 401, 429 or 5xx went on to the report export and surfaced there as some other error. Any failed lookup now stops with its HTTP status; a 404 still says accessibility testing was not on for the run. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… needs review "Scan bstackdemo.com on WCAG 2.2 AAA with best practices on" ran at the API's defaults (WCAG 2.1 AA, best practices off), as startAccessibilityScan could only set advanced rules. The create-scan API takes all four under scanSettings, so the tool now does too: wcagVersion (the API's ten values, wcag2a to wcag22aaa and rgaa41), bestPractices and needsReview, alongside advancedRules. A setting left out still takes the API's default, and the answer says what the scan ran with, marking the defaults. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…ot 5,000 A large report took a call per ~5 issues: 486 issues ran an agent out of turns before it could say which fix clears the most. The CSV report's default page is now 10,000 characters (about 2,500 tokens), still far under a client's own limit on tool output; the parser's comment already said 10000. …le the report is still processing - A report still processing gets a fresh CSV export each call, and its link is not kept, so a call after the report finishes no longer reads the earlier, partial export (and its total and next page). A finished report's link is still reused until it expires. - The export cache keeps at most 200 reports, oldest dropped first. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Telemetry shows the tool in use (about 700 calls from about 120 users in 30 days), so it is not removed here. If it is to go, it gets a deprecation first, with the replacement named, and a removal in a later release. This reverts merge commit 07ecdda, which brought #512 into #502. …run asks for
The run-started answer names the devices the run asks App Automate for, and when a
requested OS version is not listed and the resolver used the closest one, says so, so a
run on another version than asked for is not missed. Non-numeric versions ("latest") are
expected to resolve and are not flagged.

…them A validated device's name is optional in its type; the devices note now says so, which fixes the build. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…own reason Review on #513: - The success note read "(default)" for every setting not asked for, from a table in this code. It now reads the run's settings back from its summary ("as the scan ran"), which also shows advanced rules a plan turned off. When the summary cannot be read it names only what was asked for. - A 422 was always reported as "a scan with this name already exists". The API's own reason is now passed on; the name message is kept for a 422 that gives none. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

#492 offers a11y on askBrowserStackAI again and points the two accessibility id handoffs at it. Its longer handoff text would have taken fetchAccessibilityIssues past the 200-character description budget, so the handoffs keep main's short form with #492's pointer (198 characters). Approving. Open items are in my re-review comment (compare-path caching of processing runs, compareWith dropping cursor/pageUrl); please address before or right after merge.
Brings in #502 (Automate links, share links, large exports, one-page view, scan-run comparison, #510's device note, #513's scan settings, #492's Ask AI pointer). Conflicts resolved by keeping both sides: - fetchAccessibilityIssues resolves the source first, then compareWith goes to the scan-run comparison for a scan and to the app-build comparison for an app build; pageUrl and exportTaskId pass through for web reports, and the next-page hint keeps the pageUrl with the exact remaining count. - Report links: a share link is unwrapped first, then app and manual-report links, then Automate links. - The CSV parser pages through the shared pageOf/sortBySeverity; its local copy is dropped. - The run-started message carries both the device note and the accessibility guidance. - The ids handoff keeps main's Ask AI pointer within the 200-character budget; the app lists' searchCapability pointer moves to the buildId and appReportId argument descriptions. "Show me the accessibility issues from Automate build <link>" had no route. The Accessibility API takes only its own build id and answers an Automate build id with 404 "Build not found", and nothing in the MCP mapped one to the other.
The mapping. A session run through the BrowserStack SDK belongs to the SDK's build, whose id is also the Accessibility build id. The session's test-code record names it as
build_uuid:GET {automation API}/ext/v1/sessions/{session_id}/testCode(public, basic auth; already used by the self-heal tools and in the TRA capability index asget_session_test_code)So
reportUrlnow also takes:…/builds/{build}/sessions/{session})build_uuid…/builds/{build})sessions.json?limit=1) →build_uuidThe resolved build then goes through #501's build export, so the count, duplicate folding, CSV link and paging are unchanged. A session link reads the whole build's issues; the tool description says so.
Failures say what happened instead of surfacing as a bare 404 from the export:
testCode404)The Automated Tests 404 hint (wrong kind of build id) now points at passing the Automate link as
reportUrl.Verification
Ran this branch's build against the real API:
reportUrlNew tests cover both link shapes and the three failure cases;
npm run build(lint, format, 1332 tests, tsc) passes. Not in this PR: reading only one session's test (rather than its whole build). The build's
testRunstree links a session to its Accessibility test case (retries[].uuid), but how retried tests map sessions to attempts is unverified.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
