✨ make ClusterObjectSet spec.progressionProbes immutable once set - #3036
Conversation
progressionProbes is part of the immutable content of a ClusterObjectSet revision, but — unlike spec.phases and spec.collisionProtection — it carried no immutability constraint, so a populated probes list could be changed in place after creation. Add the same immutability rule used by spec.phases: a revision may be created without probes and have them set once, but once set they cannot be modified. Add CRD validation test cases and regenerate the CRD, apply configurations, and experimental manifests. Kubernetes CustomResourceDefinition CEL field-level validation rule omitted field oldSelf transition rule semantics
💡 Result:
**If the field itself is omitted in the new object, a rule attached to that field that references `oldSelf` is skipped.** Transition rules normally run only on updates when both the old and new values exist; that includes skipping when an optional field is unset or removed. ([kubernetes.io](https://kubernetes.io/docs/tasks/extend-kubernetes/custom-resources/custom-resource-definitions/?utm_source=openai))
So a field-level rule like `self == oldSelf` does **not** by itself prevent an optional field from being removed. To forbid removal after it was set, put a rule on the **parent object**, where both parent values remain available, for example:
```cel
!has(oldSelf.field) || has(self.field)
```
This allows the field to be initially absent, but rejects removing it once it existed. ([kubernetes.io](https://kubernetes.io/docs/tasks/extend-kubernetes/custom-resources/custom-resource-definitions/?utm_source=openai))
For a rule that must also run when `oldSelf` cannot be correlated, `optionalOldSelf: true` changes `oldSelf` to an optional value and makes the rule evaluate unconditionally; handle absence with `oldSelf.hasValue()` before accessing its value. ([kubernetes.io](https://kubernetes.io/docs/tasks/extend-kubernetes/custom-resources/custom-resource-definitions/?utm_source=openai))

Enforce immutability at the spec level.
The field-level CEL rule is skipped when an optional field is omitted from the new object. An update can therefore remove existing progressionProbes. MinItems=1 also makes the documented “even if empty” case invalid for progressionProbes.
Apply the same correction to phases, which has the same removal gap. Add tests that set each field and then clear it. Regenerate the CRDs, manifests, and apply configurations.

Description
spec.progressionProbesis part of the immutable content of aClusterObjectSetrevision, but — unlikespec.phasesandspec.collisionProtection— it carried no immutability constraint. A populated probes list could therefore be changed in place after creation, which breaks the "a revision is an immutable snapshot" contract (and would let a server-side-apply diff silently mutate an existing revision rather than roll a new one).This applies the same immutability rule already used by
spec.phases:// +kubebuilder:validation:XValidation:rule="self == oldSelf || oldSelf.size() == 0", message="progressionProbes is immutable"Semantics (matching
spec.phases): a revision may be created without probes and have them set once, but once set they cannot be modified.Changes
XValidationrule (and a doc note) toClusterObjectSetSpec.ProgressionProbes.TestClusterObjectSetImmutability: "progressionProbes may be initially unset" (allowed) and "progressionProbes are immutable once set" (rejected).Testing
